Your assignment
In class we looked up the different definitions of propaganda. We wrote them on the board. We analyzed the definitions to look for the common themes within the definitions and came up with the list of four elements given above. We then used the Internet to look at many different examples of propaganda and discussed them. We then discussed the common design elements of the posters (the themes in design which were most common). This included but is not limited to; dark colors (reds and blacks), graphic images, strong central focus, strong imagery, limited use of words (no more than four words) and use of fear as a motivator.
Students were charged with creating their own propaganda poster. Grading will be done on the following elements:
1. imagery
2. is the message biased
3. does it persuade
4. is there an emotional appeal
5. does the poster represent a true propaganda poster
